These are some of my favorite places for landscape photography.

Chimney Rock Park is located in Chimney Rock, NC near Lake Lure, NC and Asheville, NC. The view from Chimney Rock is amazing. There is an elevator to the top for those who do not like hiking and miles of trails for those who do.

The Lin Cove Viaduct located at milepost 304.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a great location for photography with many trails and small streams.

Price's Lake located at milepost 297 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and part of Julian Price Memorial Park. There are canoe/boat rentals at the lake. The park has miles of hiking trails and streams. This is the largest campground on the Parkway.

Thunder Hill overlook located at milepost 290.3 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This is one of the most popular spots for sunrise pictures and astronomy. There is a large hill overlooking the road that is a great spot to set up your camera or telescope.

South Mountain State Park located south of Morganton, NC.  This is a great spot for waterfall photography. There are many small falls and the High Shoals falls has a drop of 80 feet.  There are over 40 miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, horse bridals.

Mcgalliard Falls Park in Valdese, NC. This park has a large water fall, picnic area, steams, and a water wheel. It is a good spot to pratice waterfall photography. It is located only a few miles from downtown Valdese.

RavenRock.jpg

Raven Rock Overlook at mile marker 289.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the best spots on the parkway for sunset photos.  It is also a popular spot for rock climbing. It is located north on the parkway a few miles from Blowing Rock, NC.

RoughRidge.jpg

Rough Ridge Overlook located at mile marker 302.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway offers on of the best views on the parkway. The hike is a little steep to begin with, but then it opens up to a long wooden platform. On the opposite side of the road from the parking area, you will have a grand view of the piedmont of North Carolina. As you look out, you will be seeing the towns of Hickory and Lenoir. On really clear days, you can see the Charlotte skyline.

TableRock.jpg

Table Rock is located north of Morganton, NC off highway 181.  Table Rock Road is about an 8 mile dirt road that is paved on the last steep section up to the parking area. There are several hiking trails. The hike to the top is roughly 2 miles and you will find out really quick if you are out of shape. The view at the top is spectacular. Pretty much an unlimited 360 degree view of the surrounding area. I prefer this hike in the Winter or early Spring because the insects are aweful in warmer weather. In the Winter months the last part of the road may be closed making for an additional 1-2 mile hike to the parking area.

Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Missippi river at 6684 feet. The park occupies 1946 acres. It has a museum, hiking trails, campground, and restuarant.  Mount Mitchell is located at mile marker 355 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
